WOJM Special Edition #4: 2012 JoeCon Site Announcement! Episode 29: What’s on JOE Mind?
Nov 04

YO JOE!  If you scream it loud enough, their admin Terry appears...so we let him join the show, THIS time as a special guest host.  Greg dips into the mailbag to reply to letters from Ramses, Josh and Engineernerd...but before we could do that, we had voicemail to listen to!  Once again, Chuck's buddy, Herb from Rhode Island called to let Chuck know all about the "dangers and distractions" of partying down in New Orleans for JoeCon 2012.  In the news, the fandom got to see their first LIVE glimpses of the movie filming in New Orleans as ET gave us 2 minutes of bliss showing us scenes of Dwayne and Tatum exchanging some lines AND we see a vehicle looking an awful lot like a Water Moccasin sporting a COBRA logo.  Speaking of New Orleans, we get the other hosts reactions and remind you, if you are thinking about going to JoeCon 2012 and have not done so already, you MUST listen to our Special Edition JoeCon FAQ episode.  If you don't, we'll make Chuck sing, and you don't want that, do you?  Well, DO YOU?!  The GIJCC is getting closer to unveiling all 12 of their subscription figures by showing us #6 and #7 over the last week; Jinx and Barrel Roll.  What do the guys think of these two drastically different disciplined character figures?  The TerrorDrome shows us carded pics of Lifeline and the Zombie Viper.  Lifeline is a winner across the board, but you will be surprised about the group's split on the Zombie Viper AND which pair actually agree for a chance.

LASTLY, it is contest time again.  Rich from ARealAmericanHero.com is not only a good sport for coming on the program and taking a beating from Justin and Gary (nah, it really wasn't that bad), but he is super generous too and has offered up a SDCC Pink Zarana for a prize.  So it is trivia time again folks!  Are you ready?  All correct answers will be put into a blind draw and Erica will pick the winner once again.  The questions can be found in episodes 25, 24, 23, & 22:

From Episode #25 - Chuck tries to stump us back asking us what is Sgt. Slaughter's original name as introduced by Vince McMahon?

From Episode #24 - The Club's 12" Incentive Figure, The Man of Evil, is a member of what Joe mythos faction?

From Episode #23 - What is the name of the bar that Kevin, Justin and Gary went to in Minneapolis during JoeCon 2005?

From Episode #22 - What was the score of the softball game that Greg's team won that week?

Email your answers to whatsonjoemind@gmail.com by 9pm EST on Tuesday, November 8th to be eligible!  And be a good sport by thanking Rich for his generosity by visiting his site ARealAmericanHero.com and subscribe to his twitter feed: @aRAH_tweets

Great mailbag questions. An Air Force PJ would be great. Cover Girl’s a diesel mechanic — I’d say she could fit the motor pool mechanic bill. Went in to a TRU where they had the True Heros AB-115 (C-130) up on display over an endcap. Very imposing.

    Hey Guys,

Again great show. What a note to end my holidays on.

I’m in agreement with twitziller about great mail bag questions. One specialty I also think is over looked is an actual aircraft mechanic. I have a cousin in the Canadian forces who specializes in that but also loads the missiles onto the planes. So I’m thinking maybe both air craft and ground vehicle personal would be great additions.

I’m also in agreement with Gary when it comes to the Zombie Viper. I have my opinions on it and have been dragged over the coals for them over on hisstank but I know I will get a couple to support the line but as far as troop building them. No way. Its an awesome figure to look at but I can see a design issue with it already and I think that’s when the Bo-viper limbs are put on . I can see a hard time for the thing to stand due to its weight.

As far as the sub figures go Jinx right now is my fav and if I wasn’t already on board with the sub that figure would be the deal maker. The dragon paint app as I mentioned on General Joes and Hisstank is a great homage to the original Jinx and using the city strike scarlet body just brings it up to date. But whats up with the old style football helmet for Barrel Roll. I see this figure for some reason looking like football players of yesteryear. The colors don’t bother me at all having not seen the spy troops version , but that helmet yikes!

Anyway can’t wait for next weeks show.

    Sincerely,

    Ryan ( Mapleleaf ) Hildebrand

I drove a deuce and a half in the Army but I couldn’t have fixed a problem with it to save my life. And not all the motor pool folks in the unit were assigned to drive anything they maintained. The Joes DO need a dedicated mechani… Like Terry said, Clutch was hinted at for the role but it was never official and I never saw that way. Same goes for Cover Girl, Skidmark, Cannonball, etc.

Clutch was an auto mechanic prior to enlistment, Cover Girl is proficient in diesel mechanics, and Crankcase built street machines from the age of 13. All of those folks could turn a wrench, but there’d be nothing wrong with giving the Joes a dedicated mechanic.

I’m usually with Gary on not liking the weirder departures that Joe takes from time to time, but I do look forward to the Zombie-Viper. Resident Evil evolved the “zombie” genre into a more realistic, military, virus-based frame of mind and that seems to be the angle Hasbro’s working. If I had to nitpick him, I’d say that I’ve been turned off a little by the colors and paint apps on the Zombie-viper prototypes we’ve seen. The carded version is better, but this one might be ripe for a little repainting. It’s a little too monochromatic and there are too many transparent parts.

Another great show guys! Tonight I will be scouring the archives for the trivia answers so I can enter the contest! Hey what do we have to do to get included in the ‘Links’ list on the right? We have a plethora of Joe content on our site!

    Thanks again! Howie (UnderScoopFIRE.com)

Howard, I will add that link right now.

Everyone else, sorry about the spam filtering. Looks like Podbean had a bunch of spammers hit their clients - us included. Lets hope they get that cleared up soon. :-)

I gotta disagree with any hate for the Club Jinx figure. That figure is looks great and I for one can’t wait to get her in the mail.

Its funny you bring up a GIJoe/Dracula story since one of the pics I posted on JoeDios was a Dracula vs Snake-Eyes pic.

I like the idea of the Zombie Vipers being some leftovers from a botched Mindbender experiment

Howie! About time you showed up in the comments page. :D

Gary got you all added up.

Normally I would agree with everyone about the Zombies, I do think they are somewhat tired and overexposed, but for some reason I just really dig the idea of a Cobra zombified trooper…hell, it even fits my own personal Joeverse (suck it, Gary!)

I don’t know if people remember, but way back when I first started my dio-stories, I had the “Phoenix Protocols” which were a Cobra experiment to reconstitute dead soldiers. They used it on Storm Shadow (who was dead in my universe prior to that) but then G.I. Joe intervened and destroyed the experiments. I could see Mindbender trying to further those experiments to less than successful results. It’ll fit right into my world. :)

    Justin:

I had forgotten about the Phoenix Protocols. That fits in pretty well.

Just do me a favor and don’t pull a Blackest Night/Necrosha move and have zombie versions of Raptor, Crystal Ball, Sneek Peek, Crankcase, Breaker, Kwinn, White Clown, Cool Breeze, etc. etc. etc.

    Hay there,

Going back to the idea of specializations the one thing that Joe doesn’t cover is their own weapons supplier or manufacturer * even though the role is Desrtro’s when it comes to Cobra. I mean how else can new technology or defencive weapons be made for the Joe team ? Sure there are government contractors but it would be interesting to put a face for the joes in this regard I think.

@Ryan, that’s how I’ve always used Grand Slam in my ‘verse

I’m so damn excited over RETALIATION, I wish it wasn’t still 7 months away. I’m happy the release date was moved from August up to June 29th because I have complete faith this will be the Jo movie that ROC wasn’t. (I didn’t hate ROC but it was clearly a rushed movie that had no passion behind the film making)

    @JD

Grand Slam is a wonderful idea. At least he would be better then Matt Tracker lol

Thanks for offering your thoughts on my question guys!

I’d love to see a modern bomb disposal trooper with the full on oversize padded suit. (If there’s been one, I apologize.)

I’d also love to see a specialized variation of the mechanic in the form of an aircraft ground crew person.
