Special Edition 67: Ragin’ On The Catwalk

We at WOJM know that money is tight for a lot of folks right now, so please bear with us as we support another creator who's turned to crowd-sourcing funds.  This time, longtime friend of the program Paul Kirschstein, better known as the mind, beard, and sleepy tenor behind Raginspoon Toys, chats with Mike and guest host Dave Draper from Toy World Order about his new Kickstarter project, Complex Base Building System Series Two!  The continuation of last year's very successful Series One (which was not launched on Kickstarter), the team covers the ins, outs, stretch goals, and pledge levels for the project.  No other toy manufacturer seems interested in providing a base for your action figures these days, but Raginspoon is doing is darnedest to bring you a building system that's modular and completely customizable!  Check out the project on Kickstarter and pledge TODAY!

WOJM 118: What’s On Toe Mind?

It's October, which means changing leaves, pumpkin spice, Halloween, and... WOJM Ladies Night!  Joe and (Honorary Lady) Mike are joined once again by Sara Detrick and Kate McLeod for discussion, news, and one of the best "Losertown" segments of all time!

Since the holiday season is upon us, Joe leads the team through a brief discussion of GI Joe-themed vintage Halloween costumes and Hallmark Christmas ornaments, and Sara is scarred by Lady Jaye while taking a shine to Speedy.  You can find pictures of the costumes at:

Vintage costumes - http://www.vintage3djoes.com/playsuits--costumes.html

French masks - https://www.yojoe.com/international/france/masks.shtml

Also, Mike leads a mini-interview of Joe, as she recounts her long, eleven-year journey towards becoming an American citizen, which she completed September 11.  Congratulations to Joe!

On The Spot: Kenneth R. Koepnick, Esq.

The legendary Cousin Kenny from ROMA Collectibles stops by, in an unusual prequel/sequel/companion piece to the upcoming WOJM 118.  This episode will likely disqualify both Kenny and Mike from ever running for public office.

On The Spot: Sara’s Coup

Sara Detrick brazenly campaigns for Joe Colton's chair on WOJM as Mike takes stock of the noon hour at COIL Con 10 in Dayton, Ohio.

On The Spot: Paul Allor’s First COIL Con!

Mike and The Full Force's Chris McLeod talk about the upcoming GI Joe 2 from IDW, and Chris's mind is blown by the reveals in the book.  (Despite this, the episode is SPOILER-FREE.)  Paul gives his impressions of the show and expresses his admiration for exact change and those who use it.

Special Edition 66: Action Force Kickstarter 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Mike and Joe catch an hour with Bobby Vala in advance of the relaunch of his Action Force Kickstarter this Friday, October 18!  Bobby takes the cast through the pledge levels, add-ons, and stretch goals of the project - as well as REVEALING HOW YOU CAN GET THE SPECIAL STEEL BRIGADE OFFICER'S HEAD!  Time is of the essence on that limited exclusive piece, so be sure that you're listening closely!
Since Mike (our editor) is traveling to COIL Con this weekend (be sure to stop in and say hello if you're in the Dayton, Ohio, area), the only way to get this episode up before the launch was to take a page out of the old Gary Godsoe Fast & Dirty Playbook... that's right, there was no time for editing this one, so pardon the long pauses and occasional verbal flubs.  (Blame Joe.)

Special Edition 65: Arune Singh’s 2019 NYCC Roundup

Longtime friend of the program (and Vice President of Marketing for BOOM! Studios) Arune Singh gets behind the microphone to give his account of the just-completed 2019 New York Comic Con!  Really, NYCC hardly had any GI Joe content to speak of, but we'll take any excuse to get Arune on the program.

Mike and Arune also discuss the upcoming Snake-Eyes movie, why the other WOJM hosts might be snubbing him, and Arune's budding career as a comics writer.  Arune and Mike also give thanks to the long-time (long-suffering?) WOJM fans to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving.  Pass the cranberry sauce, eh?

Be sure to pick up the trade paperback WWE: Then Now Forever #4 on October 30, to read Arune's Jinder Mahal story - his IRS story from late last year is also included, so if you missed it the first time around, you can get both in one book!

Special Edition 64: The Stealth Hammer

Mike and Joe roll out the welcome mat for Ryan Drost of Star Joes, who's making his long-awaited return to present his new comic book project, Stealth Hammer!  Ryan gives the skinny on attempting to fulfill his lifelong dream of creating a comic book with the help of funding via Kickstarter.  You can help Ryan achieve his dream (and pick up what sounds like a really fun book) for as little as a $3 pledge by October 20.  You can find the Kickstarter's home here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stealth-hammer/stealth-hammer-all-ages-superhero-comic?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=stealth%20hammer

We've got just a little over two weeks left to help!  If you're on the fence, go ahead and pledge - you made bigger mistakes buying lunch this week that cost you more than three dollars.  If you're not in a position to help financially, PLEASE SHARE THE LINK EVERYWHERE YOU GO ONLINE!  There's a tough road ahead but we can make this happen one issue at a time!

If you have any questions, you can reach out to Ryan at starjoespodcast@gmail.com, or use WOJM as a go-between if that works better for you!  We've got a great record for backing Kickstarters, so let's keep up that reputation here!  PLEDGE TODAY!

WOJM Lost Episode 4: So Close, And Yet So Far

Wow, it's been a long time since we used this header, huh?  Hopefully it'll be another six years before we drag it out again.  Although to be fair, it's never been used to announce the actual losing of an episode before.

Mike gives a short statement to explain the death and impending phoenix-like rebirth of Episode 118, along with a teaser of what might have been.  Special thanks to Jason Thees and Terry Dizard for their help in the attempts to save the show!

WOJM 117: This Episode’s Title Has Been Trademarked

With Joe prepping for Dragon Con and Carson lost to his workload, Mark Weber and Bobby Vala return to the WOJM compound to host the first episode with not one, but TWO former Hasbro heads-of-the-brand!  It's over three hours of GI Joe content as our intrepid crew sails the sea of Snake-Eyes movie news, IDW comic happenings, and Postsac letters!  This episode also takes a nostalgic turn as Mike talks about cast turnover and gives tribute to the end of a colleague's podcast, and Mark relives the best advice he ever got from his veterinarian.  Jerry Lewis may be gone, but your Labor Day weekend marathon is RIGHT HERE!

Special Edition 63: An Interview With Paul Allor

It's new comic day, so celebrate with Mike, Rack Time Rob (in his main-roster hosting debut) and new GI Joe scribe Paul Allor!  It's a half-hour of talking about the new IDW title "GI Joe," on sale September 18!  Mike fights to hold on to his voice (which may make this the most popular episode in a long while) but Rob's comics pedigree shows up in force.  Congratulations and good luck on a long run for Paul!  Be sure to get GI Joe (with not adjectives or superlatives) added to your pull list TODAY!

There's an intermission in there where Erik had to solve a cash register crisis, so enjoy some appropriate intermission music.

WOJM 116: Dogs Of Dún Laoghaire

With Carson still away from the microphone due to his recent wedding, Mark Weber returns to hosting for the second consecutive regular episode!  In this episode, news about the upcoming G.I. Joe movie is discussed, Hasbro's struggles in finding a home for its animation studio are noted, the most recent flood of Postsac letters are cleared, and the gang teams up to give Bobby Vala's Action Force Kickstarter one last... well, kick.  Also, Mike struggles with pronunciation, Joe finds an issue with "Man's Best Friend," and Mark continues to hide from Tim Roberts!  It's equal parts madcap fun and honest-to-goodness GI Joe discussion in the Wonderful WOJM Way!

Congratulations to WOJM co-host Carson Mataxis on his marriage!

On The Spot: More Fun At The Joe Colton Booth

Mike returns to Joe's booth, where they appease the food fetishists, take selfies while recording, and accost a show-goer into showing off his prize purchase, a chromed helicopter.  Mike plugs Cook Out, a local eatery chain, and begrudgingly names Mary Mercenary his new Head of WOJM Merchandise, since WOJM fans don't buy t-shirts.

On The Spot: Carson and the Business Center

Mike and Carson discuss the Skeletron from today's Joefest Custom Class and get a plug or twenty in for John "Alyosha" Russell, Chicken Fried Toys, Joe A Day, Dime Novel Legends, Smalljoes.com, 3D Joes, and of course, #WOJM.  Page Wagner is on hand and Mike tries to get him to laugh on-air.

There's a little bit more production value on this On The Spot report than most... we were interrupted by a friend of Carson's who was completely oblivious to our recording.  You'll recognize that point when the Match Game theme hits.  Be sure to check out pictures of Skeletron on our Facebook page!

Special Edition 58: An Interview With Arthur Burghardt

ALL HAIL DESTRO!  Arthur Burghardt, the unmistakable voice of Destro from Marvel/Sunbow's G.I. Joe cartoon, returns to the world of G.I. Joe with Mike and Joe!  (Please forgive the occasional spot of poor audio quality - Arthur was not using Skype but his phone, so the connection did have a couple of iffy moments.)  Arthur tells of his time in the studio as Destro, Stalker, and Iceberg, recounts his friendship with the late Chris Latta, his favorite movie project*, talks about the rigors of writing your own material, and recounts some personal stories from his past.  It's an unforgettable hour and a half, and we're really humbled by Arthur's decision to visit WOJM for his first-ever podcast interview!

(* - we never went back to name the movie during the interview, but it's 1998's Star Kid, which is available now to stream on both Hulu and Prime.  Arthur voices Cyborsuit - check it out soon!)

Arthur will be at RoboToyCon on June 9 in Pasadena, CA, so be sure to give this a listen before you head out to meet him in person!

WOJM 115: Searching For Tim Roberts

Former G.I. Joe brand head honcho Mark Weber rejoins Mike and Joe in the WOJM studio, and gives some insight to collecting in Bend, Oregon, in the 1980s.  (Suffice to say, rivalries - perhaps blood feuds? - were born, because there wasn't a whole lot to go around.)  To that end, enjoy Mark's tales of squaring off with the soon-to-be legendary Tim Roberts!

Plus, there's a slew of movie news and a full and hearty Postsac, complete with a call to action from YouTube's Cobra Commander 788!  Two more hours of madness, courtesy of WOJM!
