Episode 9: What’s on JOE Mind?

Posted in WOJM Regular Edition, Chuck, Justin, Mike, Gary, CanJoeCon, SDCC, Retaliation, Renegades by whatsonjoemind on June 22nd, 2011

We are half way home in the 2011 convention season. SDCC is up next and there is no shortage of news. The team, minus an allegedly incarcerated Greg, recaps the Canadian Joe Con one more time. Was Hasbro taunting US fans with the GI Joe Cycle Armour coming out in Canada or will we see it here? Next we go over the sometimes ambiguous but always appreciated tweets from GI Joe 2 director Jon Chu and writer Rhett Reese. Next we dive into the shallow waters of the latest Hasbro Q&A and learn more about why the Data Viper got the axe and how the 30th Anniversary Skystriker went from fanboy dream to an actual upcoming product on the shelves in August. Supporting continued community fan projects, Justin and Gary talk up the new Old School Creations membership drive and subscription service of O-Ring figures! On to the small screen, Renegades is winding down, but the action is ratcheting up as we look at Episode 22. Gary takes a moment to go over his thoughts of Tristan Rudat's GI Joe documentry: Code Name Blast Off - if you are on the fence on buying this, you will want to listen. Lastly, we welcome the new listeners joining us from Insidepulse.com and encourage everyone to keep those questions on SK Omega coming in! All this and MIKE joins us, this week on WOJM! FREE GREG!!

I think the point behind the “old school” club is the fact that they are “old school”. If you want the articulation of the new figs then buy those.

I agree with you to a point…but there is more to it than that. The new figures aren’t just simply about articulation, it’s a design philosophy. I think you can have the “old school” o-ring figures, and still include some additional articulation, without just being a modern figure.

Personally, I don’t need it. But I can see where Mike and Chuck were coming from.

I’m almost okay with hearing some of Chuck’s audible tweets throughout the episode.

    You know, almost :-D

    Good ep, guys.

Yeah, for some reason Chuck’s inner monolog settings went from enabled to disabled. Weird how that happens…

Oh, I am sure we will talk more about OSC next week. We found a topic that fills the mailbag, and that makes me a happy host!

That is the point. We want “old school o-ring” style figures in the style they made them in the early days. We don’t want the wrist movement or foot movement. That is the entire purpose of the club.

I’m a fan of both designs and can be happy with either. Just promise me no bloody skirts and I’ll be happy.

That said I don’t know if I’ll be getting the old school figs. On my current budget I just can’t see it.

HOWEVER, I do plan on contacting Tristan Rudat and seeing about getting a copy of Operation: Blast-Off.

Maybe Chucks audible tweets are like the attacks on Dragonball Z, they have to be said outloud in order to be done properly.
