Episode 85: What’s on JOE Mind?

In this episode, they guys talk with former Hasbro employee Rich Schad who worked on the Joe line during The Rise of Cobra.  He talks to us about some of the work he did, some of which we saw, and sadly, some of which we didn't see.  Ever wonder why the Rise of Cobra boxes were oddly shaped?  Ever wonder what happened to that rumored IG v Steel Brigade set?  You'll find out why from Rick.  All in all, its a very interesting look into a side of our hobby that is not often talked about.  In the news, Retaliation W3.5 and W2 Kreons finally hit the shelves, new premium 12" figures hit in the form of Sideshow Storm Shadow and Hot Toys Joe Colton, and friend of the show Chris (aka Mysterious Stranger) talks to Hasbro's Derryl DePriest at SDCC about the future of the line.  Before wrapping it up, the gang dives into the mailbag once more to answer your burning questions.  It's episode 85 - and you know what that means...the guys talk about 1985 Joes.  Find our our favorites from this era.  All this packed into 2 hours!  Enjoy!

2013 WOJM Fantasy Football League Draft Special

THE ROAD TO CHUCK BOWL II starts here.  Surely to be our least downloaded show since our pilot, Justin and Gary got together to record the 2013 WOJM Fantasy Football League draft.  We talk no Joe - AT ALL.  It's all football with some very bad analysis on our part.  THIS is why we don't talk sports all the time folks.  We're only good in short sprints.  So here it is, Justin, Gary and a chat room full of wannabe football General Managers.  Who will win Chuck Bowl II?  One thing is for sure, it won't be Chuck.

Special Edition #32: LIVE at the Indy Toy and Comic Expo

Join regular hosts, Mike and Gary along with regular guest hosts, Noted Author James Kavanaugh and Senior Comic Desk Correspondent Mo Hunger as the team spends a day at the inaugural Indy Toy and Comic Expo.

Since it is a TOY and COMIC and EXPO, the team decided to cover each aspect of the show, whether it was about GI Joe or not. 

The TOY segment, the guys talk to James about his upcoming sequel to his RAHC Guide and do an on-hand review of the Eaglehawk helicopter - all the while we have the EXTENDED Cut of Retaliation playing in the background. (Some spoilers here, so consider yourselves warned NOW!)

The COMIC segment, the guys talk with Mo Hunger about the current state of the Joe IDW universes and her son Phoenix drops a promo for us.

The EXPO segment, the guys are joined by Celebrity Guest Host - MAXIMUS host of The Maximus Show, evenings on 103.9 The Bear from South Bend, Indiana - as they cover the costume contest.

Lastly, in segment 4 (aka the unnamed segment), Mike and Gary wrap up a full day on the follow and set the table for COIL Con IV - FEATURING STREET HAWK - coming up next!

Episode 83: What’s on JOE Mind?

It's been a month in the making!  Thanks for the wait.  We have one a heck of a show for this episode.  In the first half, we actually have some VINTAGE discussion talking about our favorite figure and vehicle from 83 (and 82).  We will do this every episode from here on out until we get to 94 and then we will figure something else out!  HA!  After our discussion, we jump to a pre-recorded interview with GI Joe Field Manual co-author Jim Sorenson.  In the second half, Jay Hunger (from that hack geeky podcast) joins Gary as they talk to Billy Cooper of the Indy Toy and Comic Expo as WOJM will be recording live from their show in July!  After the interview we dip into the mailbag to read a letter from one of our regular listeners detailing the similarities and differences of JoeCon v. BotCon.  In the news we celebrate Jon Chu helming GI Joe 3, they review - once again - the SDCC Joe exclusives, they discuss the new Regular Joes Podcast and wrap it up with talk about the new wave of Retaliation Joes arriving.  It's a pieced together episode that totals almost 3 hours of content...and a woman on it to boot.  How could you NOT listen now, right?  Oh, and don't forget to listen to our new spin off, The Full Force!

Episode 82: What’s on JOE Mind?

This is a fast tracked episode because of the timely nature of needing to get our interview with Frank Patz from EternalCon and our old pal, Mark Cheng of Operation Red Retrieval fame.  Frank and Mark give us the low down on the upcoming pop culture convention on Long Island, on Saturday June 15th.  Believe it or not, our man Chuck will be stepping out of the Emanuele compound to venture out into the sunlight.  Will he survive?  We'll find out soon.  But hear the interview first and if you are in the NYC area, go to the show and watch Mark's movie in glorious IMAX!  We cut some editing corners to speed getting this show out, so we apologize in advance for a sub par edit.  We'll go back sometime and clean it up.  In the second half, we met up with USA Today Lifestyle section writer Brian Truitt after he just broke the news on the GI Joe SDCC exclusives.  After a long wait, we now know what they are and how much will they cost.  What do we think of them?  Yeah...you gotta listen, I'm not going to tell you here.  Mike and Gary host this "almost a clip show" edition of WOJM.  It's one of our shortest regular editions in over 2 years!  Here's hoping you like the quality over quantity!  :) Are you ready for The Full Force?  It's coming soon!

Episode 81: What’s on JOE Mind?

It's an FSS EXTRAVAGANZA!  We are joined by regular guest host Craig from The Fwooshcast and show friend and toy designer Eric Araña as we give our thumbs up or down ratings of each one of the figures we will see in FSS2.  Justin and Gary review their ratings from FSS1 to see if they got anything that changed their minds from their initial ratings way back in 2011.  Erik clues us in on what he's been up to since he left the corporate toy world and what he has planned for the near future.  Even though the news this go-around was light, we turn the mailbag upside down and answer the last bits of unanswered mail from the past year as well.  Lastly, we are proud to announce our upcoming spin-off podcast, The Full Force.  To learn more about it, you got to listen!  Enjoy!!

Episode 80: What's on JOE Mind?

This is one of those episodes that took forever to edit, but hopefully it was worth the wait.  The show features not one, but two primetime interviews PLUS the returns of two of our most favorite guests.  First off are the returns of Bill Ratner and Kevin Watts.  Bill shares with us his thoughts of JoeCon as we have a very casual discussion with the man who will forever be the voice of our childhood Flint.  He also learns about JoeCon in other countries - will we see him at Roll Out Roll Call 4?  Next up is an interview we have been very eager to bring you, our interview with Lanny Lathem from the GIJCC.  This is the first, of what we hope is a regular segment we have with the club, so be sure to leave us your feedback on this interview.  Following the break we chat with Mr. Watts about his NJCC Salvo figure and share a little back and forth about the Joe internet culture's feedback on it. Sorry for the timing on this release.  Our jobs have been very aggressive with our free time, so time that we used to spend on recording and editing was replaced by working and sleep this go around.  We are VERY VERY interested in your feedback on the GIJCC segment.  Send us your thoughts or leave them here in the comment section.  Enjoy!

Episode 79: What’s on JOE Mind?

The Doctor is IN!!  No, not GI Joe Doc, or Dr. Sheldon Cooper, or even Dr. Johnny Fever...although almost as equally as crazy as the old WKRP rock and roller.  This episode we are joined by Mr. Brian Cummings, or better known to Joe fans as the Sunbow voice of Dr. Mindbender.  Join us as we talk to Brian about his career, what's he's doing now and we get to hear more about the upcoming Joe show in South Dakota, Mindbender's Clinic in Rapid City on May 18th.  Sounds like a fun time and you folks in the upper plains states should check-it-out.  In the second half of the show, we are joined by our old buddy (and Chuck's crush) Arune Singh from Marvel Comics where we spend the next 45 minutes talking about Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, C2E2 and the upcoming San Diego Comic Con (or Comic Con International as Arune says).  Following our catch up with all things Marvel, we jump into a very abbreviated news segment concerning the box office returns of Retaliation, a look behind the scenes at Hasbro and Wave 5 of FSS 1...where Grunt, left us grunting...and Cover Girl left Gary grumbling.  Speaking of Gary, hear his report from C2E2 and why he is now on triple protection, super lockdown.  The things we do for our wives...

WOJM Special Edition #31: "What's on JOE Mind?" LIVE!

During this year's JoeCon, WOJM was allowed the very unique opportunity to host a panel for the attendees.  Thus, "WOJM Live!" was born.  Join Mike, Justin and Gary as they interview the GIJCC's own "Headman," Mr. Brian Savage himself.  Yes, for the first time ever, the club submits to an interview...what will they say?  Following the interview, we send Mike out into the crowd to talk about your one-word issues.  What will the randomness result in when our own "Roving Mike" put a microphone in front of a stranger's mouth?  So in case you've missed it (like Chuck), here is WOJM on-stage debut at the 2013 JoeCon in Indy!  Enjoy!

Episode 78: What’s on JOE Mind?

The co-hosts (and Chuck) return after their trip to JoeCon and some much needed rest (or in Chuck's case, just another week at home).   The team dives right into a full recap of JoeCon, including the surprise 2013 Concept Case, a full preview of FSS2.0, and their thoughts on the Hasbro presentation - what as shown and not show therein.  Oh...and they briefly review their on-stage debut as WOJM went LIVE for their first ever, full blown, JoeCon panel.  After intermission, it's time to hit the mailbag.  There is some Retaliation and some good ol' ARAH discussion in there.  However, there is a lot more JoeCon discussion is to follow, including a very good question on how to make JoeCon more appealing to the masses despite all of the post show negativity that typically accompanies convention season.  Lastly, Mike crowns Justin the WOJM March Madness champ for 2013, but wait until who finishes second and gets a chance to come on the show...no, its not Dave Tree, although he did beat Gary.

WOJM Special Edition #30: JoeCon Day 3

So were our trio drunk or not for Special Edition #29...or did they lead you to think that?  Well if you think that is controversial, wait until you hear this report, "LIVE" from the sales floor.  Join Mike, Justin and Gary as they record directly out of the COIL Club's booth, which is dead center of the sales floor.  The guys will report on what has happened thus far to this point in the show and interview friends and listeners as they stroll by.  You will also recognize two of the personalities we talk to as regular show "contributors".  Who could they be?  You have to listen and find out.  No beers were consumed during this recording, but if you hate the consumption of donuts, you may want to skip this one.  Enjoy!!

Episode 77: What’s on JOE Mind?

Well, its our second annual pre-JoeCon "Live" episode.  Who could we have as our guest on the heels of Jon Chu...well, how about TNI's and the CFB's Don Anderson.  Feel a little let down now?  Yeah, a little.  Imagine how we felt...but Don brought his B-Game for us and we had a semi-good show.  We answer more of your listener mail, talk about the surprising returns of Retaliation, rejoice at the green lighting of GI Joe 3, and do a ton of preview for JoeCon - INCLUDING the 10 day AccuJoe Forecast and  items you should bring with you on your trip to Indianapolis.  For those of you who are wondering, we also have James Kavanaugh's list from last year, so take note!! So this is our last regular edition for a couple of weeks.  Thankfully, no Chuck until then.  In the meantime, catch our JoeCon Special Editions and see us LIVE (for real time time) in the Grand Ballroom ON STAGE at JoeCon on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 from 4:00-4:50pm. WOJM Special Edition #28: Our Review of Retaliation...AND JON CHU!!

Once again, first off, there are many many spoilers discussed in this episode.  If you have not seen the movie and do not want to be spoiled, we recommend you DO NOT listen to this until you have seen the movie first!! So we've all seen the movie.  There is some parts WE LOVE.  There are some parts that still need some work.  Aaaand, yes, there is a part or two that made us cringe.  With that said, we all enjoyed our time at the theater to watch the movie we waited so long for.  What were our favorite parts?  What parts did we not like?  What would we do if we were in charge?  We answer all of those.  Plus...we get an unannounced but very welcome visit by Retalition's Director - yes, Mr. Jon M. Chu himself joins us from his kitchen.  He spends nearly an HOUR with us candidly answering every question we asked him.  What an opportunity - thanks to Justin for setting that up and thanks for Jon joining us while going over opening night return numbers.  We had a blast doing this one and we hope you enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime recording of WOJM! We're not kidding.  If you listen to this and you don't like spoilers BEFORE you see the movie, then its YOUR fault.  We recorded this a few weeks ago just hours after our man in the UK, Dave Tree, got to see an advance preview of GI Joe Retaliation.  While the details were fresh in his mind, he joined Justin and Gary to give his full, no holds barred report of the film.  You patiently waited THREE years since Rise of Cobra AND on top of that, ANOTHER NINE MONTH delay so they can convert it to 3D.  Now it is OUR time and OUR turn.  Is everything better in 3D?  Find out next, in this monumental and landmark special edition of WOJM!  Oh, and thanks to Jon Chu for the intro!  ;)

WOJM Special Edition #26: WOJM on the Red Carpet in London!

As of late, when most of us think of Retaliation and the color red, we think of how much of a knock out Adrianne Palicki looks in that red dress she is seen wearing in the trailers.  Well, red means something else when it comes to worldwide premiere's of movies, it means the RED CARPET.  Paramount UK afforded an opportunity for our man in the UK, Dave Tree, to attend the premiere and get a spot on the side of the carpet, we couldn't pass it up.  Throw in an exclusive interview with Director Jon M. Chu, and it is a DONE DEAL!  WOJM is red carpet bound.  Check this show out as Justin and Gary comment on the movie and interviews, all the while throwing coverage back to London for updates from the premiere party.  Music, ninjas and celebs abound!  This is a CAN'T MISS special - once in a lifetime - edition of WOJM!
