WOJM: The "Lost" Episodes #1

About a month ago we were asked to record a special segment for the Geek Cast Radio Network's Year in Review show.  How could we resist, right?  Originally we were asked to have each host list their Top 5 and Bottom 5 GI Joe moments from 2011.  Well, since we REALLY like to talk and go into in-depth discussions on our topics, to have basically a Top 20 and Bottom 20 list would be a little too much.  It would have turned into a 5 hour marathon and Gary would have been crushed from post production.  So we pooled our picks together and came up with a group consensus Top 5 and Bottom 5.  Now, we repeat some of what we talked about in Episode 35, but we touch on other topics too so we keep the content fresh.  Anyways, we had fun and we hope you enjoy it.  We thank the GCRN for allowing us to be involved in their program! **This episode is posted with the permission from the GCRN** Take our show survey!  STANDARD or ABBREVIATED

Episode 38: What's on JOE Mind?

When we started podcasting, our expectations were low.  We didn't expect to be around very long and we would have never guessed that we would have an interview with anyone associated with Joe media.  Well, it seemed appropriate on the episode that makes WOJM the longest running Joe-only podcast on the internet (possibly in the world or in all existence for that matter), we book our biggest interview to date.  You've heard him in our pre-show bumpers, but now we get him for an hour, its Jason Marsden the voice of Duke on the Hub's GI Joe Renegades cartoon.  We can't begin to tell you how cool it was to hear him in person talk about his experience with the latest Joe toon rendition!  He reveals quite a bit to us, but beyond that we just had a very enjoyable talk with a very cool dude...who happened to sound like Duke.  To lend us a hand on this landmark occasion for WOJM, we invited AtomicMartian.com's Jason (yes, two Mikes last week, two Jasons this week) to be part of the interview - BUT, not before being interviewed first about his team's very popular YouTube toy review videos.  Perhaps you may remember Chuck gushing about them on a weekly basis?  It was a hectic record night, but thanks to a refreshed Greg and the Jasons', it all turned out to be one of our personal favorite episodes.  A special thanks to Gary Head and all those who called in to congratulate us on this landmark episode.  Oh, and Herb from Rhode Island makes a return.  We put in a lot of hard work in these shows, so it means a lot to hear from you guys.  So who cares if it was a slow news week?!  We don't need no stinking news (it would be nice though).  We hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording - editing sucked because of Kevin Watts - just listen and you'll find out what I meant; he set a new bleeping record. Episode 37: What's on JOE Mind?

Man oh man, this was "one of those" types of episodes.  With Greg gone, the mice could play and they stacked on a very ambitious schedule of YOUR listener mail to review.  Justin missed most of the fun too as he spent the evening with his boss - read into that however you want, we just know it involved dinner and a movie!  So with the programs two steady "rocks" gone, we called upon our pinch hitting host Beach-Head Mike and friend of the program James Kavanaugh, Jr to fill in for the absent hosts.  This also made Chuck #2...host that is.  Little did Chuck know that every time he made a joke, he was a corney #2 {rimshot}.  Anyway, also on hand from the GCRN was TFOMG1 Mike..., er, we mean SkelatorMike, wait no...JediMike...no...oh, LEADER-1 Mike.  We talked to Mike about how he got started in podcasting and long with some tips for you starters out there who may be thinking about doing a podcast of your own.  Of course, as co-founder of the GCRN, he also give us the 2012 outlook; of which we know What's on JOE Mind will play a big role.  In your letters we touched on several topics, such as how many figures we own, how many vehicles we own, thoughts on Retaliation, the FSS and GIJoe-Transformers comics.  In the news, it is possible that Sideshow may make Gary a VERY happy collector and POSSIBLY release his favorite character - but no firm news yet.  Our friend Mark Cheng of Operation Red Retrieval posted his deleted scenes and alternate ending to his fanfilm.  Lastly the club sends out an update on the FSS and the fandom doesn't react as we thought they would.  The gang explores why.  This IS our longest podcast ever, HOWEVER, if you require more length, be sure to monitor our Facebook page for some WOJM FB Exclusive outtakes.  Just like a great steakhouse, WOJM only grills you up ONLY the choice cuts of the meat.  All this, plus you can hear Mike this time, AND MORE on THIS episode of WOJM! Episode 36: What's on JOE Mind?

Up and at 'em!!  Break time is over soldiers and it is time to get back into the normal swing of things, or at least how WOJM goes.  While it seems like forever and a day until JoeCon and the movie, we are just little a month out from Toy Fair where we will find out all the new Joe goodies we will see for the movie line.  So much to talk about...  So little time...  This week the gang reconvines from its holiday break and is joined by IDW GI Joe artist Robert Atkins for a very informative and informal interview with the guy who was tasked to re-invent Cobra Commander.  I mean HOW COOL IS THAT!?  Robert also talks about school, his job, his personal collection and his upcoming appearance at Roll Out/Roll Call 3 in the UK.  Speaking of Roll Out/Roll call 3, Gary announces he will be making an appearance - LOOK OUT SOUTHAMPTON!!  In the news, our sponsor Kokomo Toys announces the first bit of Retaliation retail news with basic case assortment information - no idea who or what the figures will be, but its exciting news indeed. Thanks to the guys on Fighting118th.com, we get some more pics of the cancelled Tiger Force-looking TRU Jurassic Park AWE Striker. Figures.com picked GI Joe as the #1 military toy line of 2011 - this is not surprising to us, but we discuss and thump our chests while taking shots on how poorly the other 3.75" lines compare.  Last in the news, the early GIJCC newsletter are arriving and indications point to the FSS starting soon.  Greg is skeptical.  Its an entertaining time with Robert as we shake off the holiday haze for this latest episode of WOJM! WOJM Special Edition #5: A look back at The Rise of Cobra

Mount up!  Technically, they don't exist.  They answer to know one.  And when all else fails, they don't.  Welcome to the NEW face of GI Joe in 2009, the Rise of Cobra.  GI Joe is still the codename of a daring, high trained special mission force who purpose is to defend human freedom against those who threaten it.  Sound familiar?  This time you heard nothing about America AND Cobra.  Why?  Well the movie world has Joe as an international force, oddly, something more akin to the cult classic MegaForce and less anything to do with the comic we grew up with.  And with no Cobra as the enemy, who would Joe fight to get Cobra to "rise"?  That would be our favorite Scottish weapons provider Destro and his MARS organization.  Well, if you were like most in the fandom at the time, your head began to hurt as Joe, was for good, yet mostly bad, changing in front of our very eyes.  While some timeless characters like Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow remained mostly unchanged, favorites like Breaker are brought back from the dead and Heavy Duty was given an accent other than that of a Chicagoan.  Toss in changing the race of Ripcord, which in itself was no big deal AND mixing in the weird Rex-Duke-Anna triangle and the fandom had about as much as it could handle.  Joe did well for one week in the theater, but for the most part the fandom turned their back on the motion picture as a failed experiment that almost killed our hobby.  In the toy world, the RoC toys sold very well, but Hasbro, for whatever reason, decided to ramp up production and flood the stores with early movie waves.  Never mind that figures from the Terminator, Star Trek, and Pirates of the Caribbean movies will still warming the pegs, Hasbro went full steam ahead.  These little mistakes undoubtedly effected what we saw in the Pursuit of Cobra line all the way down to the most recent 30th Anniversary wave.  We figured it fitting that after a few days of the GI Joe Retaliation trailer hitting, the WOJM would gather around the mics one last time in 2011 to look back on RoC, give our thoughts on the movie, the figures, the vehicles, the licensed product and give our early comparison thoughts to the new sequel.  So make the call!  Sit down and hear this special Rise of Cobra Retrospective of WOJM!  When we're finished, the world will never forget! Episode 35: What's on JOE Mind?

April 25th, 2011 - its when we posted our first show.  We had NO idea how this would go.  Some of us thought it would be an epic failure and end in embarassment.  Well, 36 weekly shows later, we're still chugging along trying to be the loudest cheerleaders of the line we can.  We could not have done this without YOU the fans and our many many friends and supporters, so we hope you don't mind a little gratuitous back patting this week as we take time to thank you all for all of your help and involvement over the last year.  This week the team looks back at the year that was, 2011 in the first half of the show.  What were the highlights?  What were the lowlights?  Who or what did we lose over the last year to make the obituary?  We also answer some voice mail from a famous terrorist leader with world dominaion aspirations and we get a special song from a show regular that even made Justin blush.  In the second half we go over what to expect in 2012.  With Toy Fair, JoeCon, the Movie and SDCC in the first half of the year ALONE, it is going to be a GREAT 2012 for the line.  In the brief news of the week, an Amazon.com rumor has them selling an exclusive movie 4 pack - who's characters confuse the team, but we know who to blame for not reporting it right.  To wrap the news up, Sideshow releases the uber cool Cobra Viper.  It was a good year to be a Sideshow fan!  Lastly, we play for you what the listeners chose for the most Classic Chuck Moment of 2011.  Happy Holidays and see you in 2012!!

Episode 34: What's on JOE Mind?

Well, the original plan was to tune it down a knotch with a leisurely and informative interview with IDW Sr. Editor John Barber.  But...Justin got all crazy on Twitter and was convinced by Jon Chu to tweet the hell out of the known Joe community to get Paramount to release the first teaser Trailer for GI Joe Retaliation.  Like a Christmas miracle, it seemed to work so this week was D-Day for the new trailer featuring tons of The Rock being a badass, Adrianne Palicki in a low cut red dress and ninjas...lots and lots of ninjas...oh, and John McClain, er, I mean Bruce Willis.  So guess what we talked about?  You guessed it...and we got to hear Chuck's wild theories about the movie.  How one can deduce an entire 2+ hour movie in 2 minutes and 30 seconds is beyond us, but Chuck does it.  Luckily he is being recorded so come the end of June we can all enjoy a laugh.  In the news...YES, there was other news; Wave 4 shipped, Sideshow Hawks arrived, Robert Atkins has a cool contest on JoeCustoms and an evil mastermind sent us an audio file to address something Justin said in an earlier episode.  Yeah, this wasn't your standard edition of WOJM, but know we made this with lots and lots of love.  Share it with us will you?  Enjoy!

Episode 33: What's on JOE Mind?

What do you do when one Chuck isn't enough?  You add another, that's what ya do!  Chuck from the very popular podcast, StarJoes joins us as a guest to double your Chuck power for the week.  StarJoes Chuck gives an impressive performance.  WOJM Chuck, just throws in the "rag."  From the mailbag we ready Monte's letter concerning theigh cuts and other items to make it easier to customize.  Hear the reactions from the live Tweet as man-cards were retracted then later reissued.  In the news, wave 3 just got here and it looks like wave 4 is nipping at its heels.  A date for COIL Con III is revealed.  The club debuts some more detail on the FSS figures and cardart, while Justin and Gary give their thoughts on the behavior of the fandom towards the club.  IDW crowns a new Cobra Commander - ample spoilers are given, you have been warned.  Ellen Tigh is still the 13th Cylon; sorry its a 5 year old show, spoiler limitations do not apply.  If you need more Joe on TV, The Hub is now showing season 2 of the Joe toon.  Lastly the crew wraps it up by discussing the Joe-molded Jurassic Park figures that were originally destined for TRU, but are showing up in various Asian markets.  Greg was moody so we ended it short so he could get some sleep.  Shhh, don't laugh too loud, you'll wake him.

Episode 32: What's on JOE Mind?

Waaay back in episode 17, we had this guy named Mark Cheng come on our show to tell us about this little known GI Joe fanfilm trailer that set the community abuzz.  We thought it was cool and we wanted to get the word out in the community.  Well, a few weeks and months later, the film is out, it has a giant twist and its a HUGE hit.  You have NEVER seen GI Joe like this!!  Mark joins us once again and this time he brings along actor Mack Kuhr who played the chief villian (and uber evil) Zartan.  Also while recording, we got a special tweet for Mark and Mack that even had the co-host in awe...but you need to listen to find out who sent the tweet.  In the news the guys hash out the GIJCC FSS one more time and give their final thoughts on the 12 figures as well as make a prediction on the final 13th - we can assure you it isn't Ellen Tigh - yes, that was a Battlestar Galactica reference.  We get a peek at some GIJCC FSS cart art, Wave 3 starts to appear, and we review a Kwinn filled final round of Hasbro Q&A answers for 2011.  Of course, all this and more on this episode of WOJM!

Episode 31: What's on JOE Mind?

So what is better after driving for hours, cooking for hours, watching endless parades, filling your gut full of turkey, and watching back-to-back-to-back football?  Talking GI Joe of course!!  Welcome to the holiday season as they guys team up with Jason from TheTerrorDrome.com to give their season gift giving ideas - or possibly some ideas to drop to your loved one to buy you for a gift.  From the mailbag, a listener asks us (read: Justin) about the whereabouts and rough counts of some long lost Sigma Six items.  In our second listner email, we are asked about seeing GI Joe in 2013 and we are prompted with the question of what we would be collecting if we were not already collecting GI Joe.  An interesting question for sure.  In the news we break the news on the Canadian Joe Convention dates, have a non-spoiler discussion about IDW ARAH #172, end of principle filming on GI Joe 2, Justin gushes over the Zombie Viper (again), the GIJCC reveals figure #12 Big Boa and Sideshow announces their latest GI Joe offering.  We are just thankful we are not FCC monitored...Justin would have cost us some serious cash in decentcy fines.  As usual, all this and more NEXT on this Holiday Edition of WOJM!

Episode 30: What's on JOE Mind?

Can you believe we ACTUALLY made it to episode 30?!  Neither can we!  We have a special show lined up for this landmark episode.  As you have heard from past shows, the legend of GI Joe may only be shadowed by the legend of James Kavanaugh, Jr!!  He joins us once again, technically for a THIRD time (a fact completely lost on Gary during his intro).  This week we struggle though some microphone and bandwidth issues, so we apologize in advance (in other words, we don't want to hear any complaints - we know!).  Technical issues aside, we read some of your listener email AND Greg breaks the format and asks his own question for a lengthy and deep group discussion.  In the news the fellas got a chance to view former guest Mark Cheng's Operation: Red Retrieval fan film for the first time.  Get their spoiler free reviews!  It is unlike anything you have ever seen before from a fan film!  Justin gushes over waves 3 and 4 (reviews on his site).  From the club we got two FSS unveils in the last week.  You might have seen what the community said online about Sure Fire and Cover Girl, but check out what the fellas have to say about the latest two offerings from the club!  You might be surprised on what they say.  Its another TWO HOUR epic, full of news, reviews and laughs - sometimes even not at Chuck's expense AND they send a special shout out to one of our real heroes in the field.  ALL NEXT on episode three-zero.  Oh, and a special thanks to Action Figure Therapy for the celebrity intro!

Episode 29: What's on JOE Mind?

Be prepared to learn about a whole other level of GI Joe collecting from two of the higher profile pre-production collectors in the community.  Joining us for his second appearance is the infamous Gary Head, but we're not going to interview him...no, no, no, he's had his chance in the WOJM limelight and what did he do?  He let Chuck read a haiku whilst imitating Sunbow Major Bludd, very very badly.  So we put the "other" Gary to work this episode and gave him hosting duties.  Getting the red carpet treatment this week is the extremely knowledgable Pat Stewart - aka notpicard (get it?!) on the boards.  He shares with us thw work Hasbro puts into engineering our favorite figures and further helps us determine what is a variant and what is not and what does all of this strange terminology mean like TEST SHOT, PROTOTYPE, CARDED SAMPLE, etc, etc.  We hope your mind has a hunger for some Joe knowledge, because you will get more than a three meal course this time!  In the news the team gives their thoughts on the latest GIJCC FSS offering TNT.  Jealousy and rage are contained as JayC from TNI shares with the community his BBTS exclusive 7-packs.  We also get a chance to see some of the next two waves of figures IN HAND as Justin get's the exclusive lowdown on the upcoming waves.  Before wrapping it up someone is going to win a MOC SDCC pink Zarana as we draw a winner for our latest contest sponsored by ARealAmericanHero.com.  What was the name of that Gay Bar Gary and Justin went to in 2005?  It's not the longest WOJM ever, but Chuck always tells us that size doesn't matter.  Anyways...remember, #MOARGREG > #LESSGREG - ALL NEXT on WOJM!

Episode 28: What's on JOE Mind?

YO JOE!  If you scream it loud enough, their admin Terry appears...so we let him join the show, THIS time as a special guest host.  Greg dips into the mailbag to reply to letters from Ramses, Josh and Engineernerd...but before we could do that, we had voicemail to listen to!  Once again, Chuck's buddy, Herb from Rhode Island called to let Chuck know all about the "dangers and distractions" of partying down in New Orleans for JoeCon 2012.  In the news, the fandom got to see their first LIVE glimpses of the movie filming in New Orleans as ET gave us 2 minutes of bliss showing us scenes of Dwayne and Tatum exchanging some lines AND we see a vehicle looking an awful lot like a Water Moccasin sporting a COBRA logo.  Speaking of New Orleans, we get the other hosts reactions and remind you, if you are thinking about going to JoeCon 2012 and have not done so already, you MUST listen to our Special Edition JoeCon FAQ episode.  If you don't, we'll make Chuck sing, and you don't want that, do you?  Well, DO YOU?!  The GIJCC is getting closer to unveiling all 12 of their subscription figures by showing us #6 and #7 over the last week; Jinx and Barrel Roll.  What do the guys think of these two drastically different disciplined character figures?  The TerrorDrome shows us carded pics of Lifeline and the Zombie Viper.  Lifeline is a winner across the board, but you will be surprised about the group's split on the Zombie Viper AND which pair actually agree for a chance. WOJM Special Edition #4: 2012 JoeCon Site Announcement!

No, we are not done yet this week!!  Its been a while since we've done a special edition.  When the club announced the 2012 convention site this week, we figure no time like the present to assemble the team to tackle the topic.  Whilst Greg and Chuck were unavailable, the "con vets" (not convicts as Gary slipped up and said) of the show, Justin and Gary took the torch and proudly ran with it.  Joining the duo is 10 time convention veteran (not including CanJoeCons) Josh aka Roshan from the online community.  Between the 3 of them they have nearly 30 years of JoeCon experience!  All you need to know about the early stages of JoeCon are covered, including the most common questions asked on the boards.  If you are on the fence about the 2012 con being your first or just looking for more information, you do not want to miss this.  Also we answer an email from friend of the show John aka Pluv about how to "sell" the convention to your significant other - oh, this ought to be fun!  Naturally we will be covering all the news concerning the con from when the brochures are released right up to the closing of the sales floor.  THIS is the exciting part of being a Joe fan, and this is just stop #1 on a long ride to New Orleans.  So hop on board as we begin the journey to JoeCon 2012 with this Special Edition of WOJM!

Episode 27: What's on JOE Mind?

There is no rest for the weary WOJM crew and you can tell, Gary was cranky and moody.  For the second time in less than a week they MAN UP and gather once more to review with you the latest from the Joe community.  With Greg's softball season ended successfully, we return to our "old" recording night to pick up the news of the week.  As websites go, ARealAmericanHero.com is one we have kept our eyes on.  From that we invited its admin Rich on to join in the second longest podcast we ever recorded - time flies when you are having fun.  From the mailbag we get a letter from SwamiJay (aka Jeff) about our thoughts on how possibly Sigma 6 figures could be translated to the PoC line.  In the news, the fellas sort out the answers from the latest round of the Hasbro Q&A and pick out the good, and not-so-good questions of the bunch to review.  From the GIJCC, we go two more figure unveils during the week to bring the number of known subscription figures to 6.  How did Grunt fare versus the Iron Klaw?  What is next for the club and FSS?  Find out!  On the movie front, The Rock shows us more pictures but not much else as the movie nears the end of primary filming.  To Greg's chagrin, we started an impromptu discussion on Joe and Kre-O - of which moody Gary said it would fail miserably.  The conversation was great, the banter sharp and the editing was sharp - gosh we love patting ourselves on the back (sometimes...only when we earn it). So when we asked Dan from ActionFigureTherapy.com to come on the show, we had no idea what were were in store for.  The headman from one of the funniest sites on the internet is a tornado of excitement AND best of all, he's a Joe fan; what more can you ask for?  Learn more about how this site started, its future and its unique relationship with the servicemen of the world. In the news we rejoice over the latest subscription unveils of the GIJCC: Topside and Dice.  We talk a little bit about JoeLanta, probably the biggest Joe show in the US next to JoeCon itself and kick around the future of Kwinn - yes folks, K-W-I-N-N, not Q-U-I-N-N.  IDW dropped ARAH #171, of which we discuss at length in addition to #170 and the Sneak Peek storyline.   Greg wraps up his softball campaign successfully for his team and Toys for Tots AND he has some big news on the home front.  If you can make it past Chuck's singing in the first 5 minutes, you can survive the entire episode.

YOU ASKED FOR IT!  IT IS OUR LONGEST PODCAST EVER! Join us along with Dave and Don from the Flag Points podcast for our first ever CROSS OVER EPISODE! For the second time in less than a week the team gathers for a show you won't want to miss.  First we have Ace Allgood from the Trenches 12" forum join us again to talk about the GIJCC's 12" incentive figure [echo]THE MAN OF EVIL[/echo] and the new 30th Anniversary 12" Joes we are seeing at retail.  He gives us his review plus everyone gives Gary grief for not opening his 12" Paratrooper.  Speaking of getting grief, the team dishes it out on Chuck, who, for some odd principal reasoning, won't join the GIJCC - shame on you Chuck!  From the mailbag we talk about the over abundance of Skystrikers that seem to be choking the shelves.  Is this a good sign?  Bad sign?  Or just too early to tell?  In the news we break the news to the community about a BIG change in the GIJCC subscription program, an addition to the availability of Footloose and send out the word that we should be hearing "any day" about the site of the 2012 con.  Also, Sideshow and Shout!Factory have some new offerings and we begin to get word of the first confirmed guests of the Roll Out/Roll Call 3 UK Transformer - Joe - Action Force Convention.  Its an early week release, but there is still plenty of talk and laughs to go around.  Stay for episode 24, but come back for #25 - its gonna be big!

Episode 23: What's on JOE Mind?

In this episode, the guys are joined by Joe community member and GI Joe documentarian, club columnist and JoeCon panelist Kevin Watts to talk to him about his NJCC exclusive HISS Tank and some past CLASSIC JoeCon memories.  From the mailbag we are asked about our collection grails and asked to talk about the "neon" era prior to the 3.75" line's first hiatus.  In the news we go over Cobra Commander added to the cast as a character in GI Joe 2.  Also uncovered and discussed is some really cool Rise of Cobra art work from Mike Thompson showing us what we could have seen on some canceled products.  Lastly, contest winners are announced, listener concerns about promos addressed and an early release for Episode 24 is made public.  All this and Justin single handedly jinxed the Red Sox on their playoff run (Ack...Playoffs?!) , plus a ton of laughs (and some beeps) in this episode of WOJM!

Episode 22: What's on JOE Mind?

This week we are joined by HissTank.com honcho Fran (aka Destro) to talk to him about the New Jersey Collectors' Convention and learn a little history on how the HissTank community got its start.  Its an interesting interview - you should listen!  Due to a slow news week, the team discussed many points of view while trying to answer Tim from KC's question about Hasbro distribution. Speaking of distribution, apparently it is working in some areas as Greg, Justin and Gary review each one of the new Renegades figures with the general consensus being that these are AWESOME!  Gary encourages a thread on HissTank concerning wanting a Sideshow Navy SEAL Torpedo figure - how sweet would that figure be!?  Oh, and the Hits for Tots campaign rolls on at full speed.  We'll be making some less fortunate children and the US Marine Corps very happy this holiday season!
